Don’t Overlook Carlos Gonzalez

For the past few seasons, Carlos Gonzalez has sort of fallen into that lump of players who are very good, but do not truly get the credit they deserve. Perhaps it is because the Rockies have not been competitive, but perhaps it also has to do with him not hitting with as much power as some expect. Either way you crack it though, in head to head fantasy baseball leagues, Gonzalez is still a top 15 player.

The Rockies outfielder last season hit .303 with 22 HR, 85 RBI and 20 stolen bases. While none of those numbers jump out individually, there are few players who can contribute in so many categories the way he can.

Many head to head fantasy baseball players tend to overlook him with National League outfielders such as Matt Kemp and Ryan Braun out there. Those guys might be slightly better, but Gonzalez is certainly no slouch.

Some are also afraid that Gonzalez is only able to put up solid head to head fantasy baseball numbers because of the park he currently plays in. That is not really the case though, as he has been able to also do a solid job away from home as well.

Whether or not he plays at a MVP level or not this season might not matter as long as he can be consistent. This is a guy who has been good for a while now, and he is still in the prime of his career. While his stolen bases might go down a bit in 2013, he should be a more consistent hitter as he ages. Look for that to be the case for Gonzalez as he progresses. Things are definitely looking up for those who are considering him for their team. He is the Rockies’ franchise player right now, so he will get the start every day.
